Trend Alert: Puffer Coats

January 21, 2018

In these cold winter months, coats are an absolute necessity to stay warm and to protect you from the elements. I don’t know about you but from November to March I live in my winter coat and only take it off to bury myself underneath 5 blankets. It is important to have a good coat to get you through these blustery months, one that will keep you warm but also one that is fashionable enough to wear every day. Since your coat is also the first article of clothing that people see on you, it is important that you coat reflects you and your style. You want to show people that you actually are stylish and not just a giant marshmallow.

This season is all about the puffer coats, and as they may not be the sexiest coat, it is fashionable and practical. This jacket became popular in the 80’s and 90’s and never really left. It really became popular with tourists and people on the ski slopes wearing them to stay warm. The item really came back into style during the fall of 2016 when Balenciaga was the first to show a red cropped puffer coat on their runway during fashion week, and then again it was sent down the runway in fall of 2017.
Fast forward to this season where the puffer coat is now more mainstream and you can buy it in any shape, style, color or pattern. They are most popular in vibrant and bright colors like yellow, red, and pink. There are many different ways to wear and style the puffer coat so that you don’t look like a frumpy mess everywhere you go. First, you can balance out the volume that the coat has by wearing a more slim fit and basic pants like dark skinny jeans or black leather leggings. Or, you can create a more balanced look by wearing the coat with a wide leg trouser and a sock boot.

Here are the best puffer coats for under 100$ that I found so you can be fashionable and warm this winter.
