2018’s Biggest Winter Trends

2018’s Biggest Winter Trends

In the cold dreary months of January and February, we look to fashion to show us bright beautiful colors that will bring us out of our winter funk. Luckily for us, we had S/S ’18 fashion week a couple of months ago to tell us what will be trending for the next couple of months. The reports are in: 80’s and 90’s clothing is in. We have transported back in time to when scrunchies, baggy ripped jeans, and fanny packs are cool again. Logo shirts, plastic jackets, and wide leg pants are also trending back into style. Read below to see how you can wear this winter’s biggest clothing trends.

Fanny packs were huge last fall but for this winter season, belt bags are the style to be worn. You can wear them around your waist, belt loops or drape it over your shoulder. Unlike last year’s bold and bright fanny pack trend, these bags are leather, more structured, and versatile. Wear them on the belt loop of your jeans, belted around your stomach on an asymmetrical dress, or throw it over your shoulder while wearing a puffy winter coat.

This classic item is a great addition to any wardrobe if you don’t already own it. Winter 2018 is all about coats duh and the trench coat is not left out. You can instantly look sleek stylish, and put together the second you put the coat on. Great to wear casually with a sweater and jeans or dress it up with heels and a silky dress.

It’s all about women’s empowerment and these strong shoulder power blazers are a must. Blazers came back into style in the fall of 2017 but now pantsuits with traditional plaid and checkered patterns are everything. Put a graphic t-shirt underneath the blazer for an instantly chic look.

With winter being all dark and gloomy we need bright colored clothing to bring a little joy into our lives. Carrying over from last year bright red and millennial pink are items to wear but with the addition of deep purple and bright yellow. Simply add these colors in with your grey, black, and browns to brighten up your winter wardrobe. Solid colors are best worn together in a color blocking fashion.

Jeans are an everyday essential that you can pair with anything and everything. Last season ripped jeans, cropped flares, and straight leg jeans were all anyone could wear. Now with the new year, there are new styles coming into the light. Slimming dark wash jeans with exposed stitching and 90’s inspired baggy jeans. Tuck in a solid color blouse and the difference in colors will really stand out but also compliment each other very well.

80’s girls rejoice the biggest trend from three decades ago is hitting the mainstream once again: scrunchies. Thanks to the 2018 resort collections we saw this trend emerge that everyone will want for this season. These retro hair accessories are being sold in a few stores but they’re not the same scrunchie you grew up with. Now called “hair clouds” they are available in bright colors and made of faux fur, velvet, and leather. Wear it in your hair or on your wrist as a pop of color to your all-black outfit.

Leggings came onto the fashion scene long ago and they have no plan on leaving anytime soon. We wear them for working out, shopping, hanging out with friends, or for just laying around the house. Leggings are a wardrobe essential. This season’s “IT” leggings are stirrup leggings. Taken straight out of the 80’s the styling options are endless. Wear them underneath the bottom of your heels for a look that will elongate your legs.
