Vests That Will Keep You Warm All Winter Long

As soon as the cold weather starts making an appearance in early fall, I pull all my bulky clothing out of storage and hang them all up in my closet. I hang up all my sweaters, comfy fleece jackets, and all my puffy warm vests. I tend to think that you can only wear vests in the fall, but in reality, I wear them all through winter long. Most outfit ideas I get for vests, I see on Pinterest and they are paired with a flannel button-down, jeans, and knee-high boots. It is truly the ultimate autumn outfit. But how do you style vests in winter? The simple answer is that you switch out the flannel for a comfy sweater!

As I was getting ready to shoot pictures for this blog post I realized just how many vests I own. I own 5 vests! 2 puffer vests, 1 fleece vest, and 1 faux fur vest. It was really easy putting together outfits to show you all how I style each one of these vests. I personally love wearing my blue Old Navy thin quilted vest with a striped shirt underneath. It is the ultimate go-to weekend outfit. Here are some other ways that you can style different types of vests to stay stylish and warm all winter long.

PUFFER VESTS

Puffer vests are the most common type of vests that I see everyone wearing. You can easily go buy them at Old Navy in every color. They can be thin or extra puffy, I have one of each. The picture below has my favorite blue thin vest that I wear mostly for fashion because it doesnโ€™t keep me warm at all haha. I love pairing the vest with a striped top or flannel, leggings, and UGG boots. If you do want to add a layer of warmth, put a heavy knit vest around your neck! Big puffy vests like the one at the top of this post are great to wear when the weather gets below freezing. Wear a comfy sweater underneath the puffer vest and you are ready to venture outside into the cold. Puffer vests are great for wearing when you have casual Friday at work or on the weekends when you are shopping!

FLEECE VESTS

A more casual vest that I wear ALL THE TIME is the fleece vest. I love them just because of how soft and fuzzy they are. I own a lot of fleece sweaters so it only makes sense that I love fleece vests as well! In the photo below I styled my Thread and Supply vest from Nordstrom with a white striped top, skinny jeans, and my beloved UGG boots. These types of vests are great for wearing on the weekend when youโ€™re lounging at home watching Netflix. It will feel like you are being snuggled by a warm blanket. You can also pair this vest with a flannel underneath for the ultimate fall/winter look. There are many different types of fleece vests like what I have below the image.

FAUX FUR VESTS

Now, these styling tips work for both faux fur vests and real fur vests, I just think that we should all be wearing faux fur so that animals donโ€™t get killed for their pelts. With that said, fur vests are great for wearing when you want to look a little fancier than usual. I wear my vest to work or out to the bar with friends. They are the perfect piece for when you want to wear the same thing to the office and then to happy hour! I wear my fur vest usually with all black so that nothing distracts or clashes with it. So I wear a black long sleeve top, black trousers or jeans, and then black or white heeled booties. The only downside of wearing an all-black outfit with a fur vest is that the vest usually sheds a lot and I have to use a lint roller 5 times a day. For a more office-friendly way of styling the vest, you can wear a solid color turtle neck or a white button-up shirt underneath. For a going out look, pair the vest with a cute long sleeve dress, tights, and heels!

These are just three examples of vests that you can wear this winter season to stay warm. There are other types out there like sheepskin vests, fringe, quilted, thermal, and hooded vests. Whichever vest you choose to wear, just make sure you wear it was a big comfy sweater and boots that will keep the rest of you warm as well!

What is your favorite vest to wear in winter?

I love vests but never understood using them for warmth…
I’ve always been used to soley wearing them for extra decoration. I adore bohemian-style vests over dresses–A super old-fashioned lightweight knot…or something crocheted or lacy and romantic!
….But now that i’m outside of the sunny California bubble i grew up in, i’m thinking i really need to add a puffer jacket to my wardrobe! ๐Ÿ˜„
*BURRR* it’s cold in Idaho, and puffer vests really do style so well, too…
โ„๏ธ๐Ÿ”๏ธThis post has a lot of great ideas for bringing different vests into your winter wardrobe! Enjoyed the read! ๐Ÿ˜Š

I really like how youโ€™ve done your pictures! All the outfits look amazing, my favourite one is with the red flannel shirt. I personally donโ€™t own any vests but youโ€™ve given me some great ideas on what to wear with them, I might try one on when I never see them in shops ๐Ÿ˜Š x

Awe thanks so much, I love taking outfit flat lay photos! You should totally buy a vest, if you get a lightweight one you can wear it basically year round!

I totally love the vest trend that happens every winter but I never purchase one of my own. Every year I say that I am going to get one and instead end up purchasing more sweaters.

    Great picks! x

I love puffer vests but I do not wear them very often. I think they look awesome but for some reason I haven’t brought any in years. I am thinking I need to invest in some puffer and fleece vests since the weather is getting colder. I love the ones you featured and the looks you created.
