We all love our homes. There’s nothing like coming back from a hard day and being able to settle down in the one place in the world where you feel the safest and the most comfortable. Many of us see our home as our sanctuary from the world where we can be totally ourselves. That being said, it’s also pretty common for many people to start feeling somewhat frustrated with their homes overall. After all, if you spend the majority of your time in one place every single day then it’s only natural that eventually some of that spark of joy you felt when you first moved in is going to start to fade at least a little. I am always moving around furniture and changing up the décor in my apartment to make the space feel different. With the change of every season and each holiday I put out new home décor items like seasonal throw pillows, blankets, and candles!
If you don’t change up the look of you home every so often you can end up felling less comfortable in your home and you start to wonder what else is out there. I know I look at other houses and apartments all the time, wishing that I could live there and imagining how I would decorate it. But the fact is that we don’t have to move somewhere completely new to have a fresh look in our home. We tend to assume that something wrong with our homes, but the truth is that we may only have to do a couple of things to bring a new look to the space we already live in.
Here are just a few things that you can do in order to bring your home back to life.
Get rid of the clutter
Take a deep look around your home, there’s probably a lot of clutter around that you don’t even notice. We tend to put items in piles around our homes and they just accumulate more and more every day. I know that there is this part of my kitchen table that we don’t sit at, just have so much stuff on it. Newspapers, magazines, junk mail, shopping receipts, packaging, books, water bottles, and whatever else I have in my purse. I do clean this pile up every Saturday, but I hate that there’s a pile to begin with. It’s cramped and messy and I hate that feeling of having stuff EVERYWHERE. If my home is a mess, I feel like my life is a mess. Anyone feel the same way? What we really need to do is to take some time to really clear out all of the clutter and junk that we don’t need. That way we can finally feel like we have our live together and everything is nice and organized.
Bring in the light
What I love about my apartment and the reason I chose is in the first place, is because of the gigantic windows that bring light into every room. Light is one of the most powerful yet most underappreciated tools in the interior design of your home. I love opening the blinds every morning and then around 2pm until sunset, there’s a bright beam of sun coming through them each day. I love it and so do my cats because they bask in the sunlight all day long! Without the right amount of light, particularly natural light, any room is going to feel cramped and stuffy. Make sure that you’re not obstructing the light into any room and try to do whatever you can to maximize it wherever possible. So open up those curtains or blinds and let all the sunlight in, you’ll be amazed at how different the room will feel when you do!.
Give it a deep clean
Even if you clean your home on a regular basis, there are some things that you just can’t stop from happening. It seems like I pick up trash everyday but there is always still more and more trash on the counters and tables around my home. Things like your kitchen counters, those hard to reach places, and especially your carpets, can pick up a lot of dirt that can be hard to get rid of when you’re cleaning your house normally. Deep cleaning your house can make the whole place feel new again. Even better, bringing in someone else like Absolute Carpet Care to handle it for you means that you can avoid the stress of cleaning but you still get to reap the rewards. You may find that you’d forgotten what color your carpets originally were. I do vacuum every couple of days, but I would love to have my home deep cleaned and have the carpets cleaned so that my apartment can truly be clean. Especially with two cats running around and rolling around on the carpets all day, I would love to have them professionally cleaned.
Be bold!
A lot of people are pretty cautious when it comes to how they’re decorating their home. They end up in a position where they are afraid of doing something wrong so instead, they just stick with things like white or magnolia walls. Instead, why not embrace some bold color? I love to bring in bright throw pillows, fresh flowers or plants, and seasonal décor that will liven up the space. You’ll really be amazed at just how much life and excitement you can bring into your home by injecting it with some exciting bursts of color. Sure, you don’t want to go overboard but providing some contrast is a fantastic way to bring your home to life.
These things might seem so simple that you don’t believe that they could ever make any kind of difference to the way that you feel about your home. However, these are always the kinds of things that are worth trying because the next step after that is something more drastic like looking for a new home. So, before you start looking at new houses online, why don’t you try to liven up the space you already live in. You don’t need any entirely new home; you just need to freshen up the one you’re already living in. Rearrange the furniture, deep clean your closet and junk piles, and bring in some new decor like thrown pillows and curtains. It’s always better to start with the small steps like these because they can really make the biggest difference in the look and feel of your home.
I recently had a bit clear out of my clothes, and I w ant to have another big clear out of everything else! I think it’s necessary to be honest!

Ugh I need to do this too. The amount of clothing I have is getting to be too much.
There is nothing I love more than settling in after a good deep clean and actually relaxing! Something about having a bright clear home allows us to really let go of our stress and really just be! Thank you so much for sharing!
Yes! It’s so great to have a clean, bright, and organized home!

Great ideas! Feels like the right time for spring cleaning!
It’s the PERFECT time for spring cleaning!
Great post! I like to clean out my closet twice a year to get rid of clothing I don’t wear anymore, along with doing a deep cleaning of my room about once a month to get rid of clutter.
After doing so I always feel so much better!

I try to go through all the clothing I have every time the seasons switch. So I just got out all my spring and summer clothing so I put away all my winter pieces. If there was something that I didn’t wear all winter I would put in the donate pile.
Great blog, deep cleaning is always good. I used to clean my closet more than twice a year. It gets messy of unnecessary things and clothes easily.
Purging your closet is definitely a thing that needs to be done 2-4 times a year!
I really need to do some serious spring cleaning even though it is almost summer. Some great tips here. Thank you so much for sharing.
SUMMER CLEANING!
I am bit lazy, so poor on this topic. But will give a try with your suggestion to start with the small steps.
Let me know how it goes!
These are great tips! I always feel better when I clear the clutter and let more light in, it opens up the home!
Yes same girl!
I started to declutter my room and realise so much unnecessary items have been piling up in my room. Now I finally have space for my important ones. I will do some cleaning again so I can find more spaces in my room.
haha me too! I always have piles of clothing around my room, so it’s good to go through it and sort out what I still like and don’t what I don’t.
Great list to declutter and add brightness. I really need these tips in time for summer!
So glad you liked it!
This is so great!
For me decluttering is the best thing to do around the house. It makes me feel good and also seems very meditative.
Adore the blog ❤️

Awe thanks so much!
De-cluttering can be a tedious task (well, it is for me) but can make a huge difference in how a room looks. If I can simply throw away all the clutter here at home, I would. Haha!
It could take me hours/days to go through everything but it’s totally worth it when you’re all done!
These are AMAZING tips. Thank you for this!! I need to get around to this before summer arrives.
So glad that I could help!
I love cleaning but I def have forgotten some of these. It was so helpful to read this and remind myself what I forgot. Thanks for sharing! Time to get cleaning.

Oh, I have so much to clean! We started already, but there is so much to do! I am not looking forward to it!
Cleaning can be quite tedious but it’s worth it and your home will look great when you’re finished!
Great content, love the tips too. I often forgot to declutter my stuff because of too much work, reading blogs always reminds me to do so.
It will be a lot of work but your home will look great in the end!
I always love posts about home decor tips. I think the best way to update your home is buying a few bold pieces, or even painting a room. A fresh coat of paint and a some bright throw pillows will have a room looking brand new.
Yes! totally agree with you! Bright statement pieces can really change the look and feel of a room.
i LOVE this post! I’m always so busy running around between university classes, blogging and work I often get home and fall right into bed and forget to keep the clutter at bay around my apartment lol. Reading this post makes me want to freshen things up for sure. Great read!

I try to pick one day a week that I always take a hour or two to clean up around my apartment. Every Saturday morning I put everything back in it’s rightful place, take the trash out, vacuum, do laundry, and clean the bathrooms. It’s just a few things but it does really make a difference!
FAB tips here! I am desperate to have our home finished, we have been renovating it for the last few months now and we are still some way to being finished!
That’s so exciting!
Your tip about light is so true. Light makes an entire room feel better as well as the people in it.
Light can make all the difference in a room!
Great tips here. Getting rid of clutter is the easiest tip to bring your home back to life. We declutter every time the season changes.
That’s awesome!
I definitely need to declutter. Some great ideas.

I love redecorating my apartment every couple of months. I don’t like it to look the same for too long.
I totally love the idea of getting rid of clutter and redecorating! I think I will have a clear look on our appartment once I come back from traveling!

I love this. We have been in our home for about a year and a half and it’s starting to need a good decluttering and some color.
Great tips! I love the feeling of relaxing in a clean house.
Clutter really gets to me. Like you, I have a space on my kitchen table where we throw post, bottles and anything else we bring in from outside. It’s right near the front door, so it’s the easiest place to put stuff. After reading this I’m actually going to go and clear it off now 🙂
I love the idea of seasonal decor! I might start with autumn or Christmas and get some new cushions and throws 🙂
Love this post.
Aw these are all such good ideas! I’ll have to try some out, especially the decluttering! x
With all the time spent at home at the moment, I have been giving my house a deep clean and decluttering a lot and I’ve loved it! My house looks so much better for it now and I’m so pleased! x

Going through all the closets and deep cleaning is such a great thing to do!
Getting rid of clutter, and cleaning in general, is so incredibly important. I found new love and appreciation for my office today just because I organized the closet, hung photos that had been waiting for nearly a year, and decluttered. It felt so good to have it organized and styled the way I wanted!
I love being organized and having my life together haha
Love your perspective on all this. I am constantly keeping my home tidey. I hate coming home to a mess and decluttering is a must! My pop of color is red I kinda have a nod to the Asian culture 🙂
So glad you enjoyed my post!
Clutter is one of my biggest pet peeves! I have moved quite a bit and always make a point to declutter and not bring unnecessary items with me. Also, if my home is cluttered I find it hard to relax. I am a very clean person and enjoy clean and minimalist surroundings ❤ Great article!
It’s always important to declutter and have a clean living space!
