During the summers as a kid, I would spend most of my time in a bathing suit. I lived up the street from the community pool so I would get in my suit for swim practice in the morning and then change into my two piece bikini to play around in all afternoon. Then when I turned 16, my first job was a lifeguard at the waterpark nearby. I literally lived in that bright red one-piece bathing suit all day and only take it off to shower and sleep. My lifeguard days are now over but I still enjoy spending my summer days laying out next to the pool and then getting in the water when it gets too hot out.
With summer right around the corner, it’s time to talk about what swimsuit styles will be the most popular this season. A lot of stores are selling all different kinds and fun new styles of bathing suits. You don’t have to just buy a two-piece triangle bikini anymore, there are one-pieces, tankini’s, sporty styles and other types of bathing suits that are trendy and totally ADORABLE!
ONE PIECE
One-piece bathing suits have been around since practically the beginning of bathing suits. They have generally been marketed towards older women who want to be more modest and show less skin. But over the last couple of years, one-piece suits have been getting sexier with cutout designs and very low backs. You can tell that one-pieces are trendy again because as soon as you walk into Target there’s a big display of them in every color and design. This summer will be all about yellow and orange solid color suits or the crazy printed ones with fruit or animals on them. Other styles of one-piece suits that I have been seeing in stores are ones that have a belt around the waist or knotted ones with ties on the shoulders for a cutsie look.
SPORTY STYLES
Now instead of the usual triangle bikini style that we see every summer, a new style – the sports bra – has emerged. If you are trying to visualize the suit in your head, think about when you are watching beach volleyball and it’s that style of bikini that the women are wearing. It’s exactly what it sounds like too, it’s a sports bra that is just as supportive and will hold everything into place, but it’s made of bathing suit material! Another sport look that is popular this summer is basically a crop top rashguard top. A rashguard is a swim shirt surfers or little kids wear so that their skin is protected from the sun. In women’s, we are seeing a crop top version of that. So you’ll still have to put sunscreen on your stomach but your chest and shoulders will be safe. You will also have very interesting tan lines…
HIGH CUT LEGS
One type of swimsuit that I have been seeing everywhere, in stores and on Instagram, is the high cut legs style. The suits are super flattering and make your legs look like they are a mile long, but I hate them. I bought the two pictured below and haven’t even taken the tags off because I need to return them. Some may like them because of how thin and tall they make you look but I am just super uncomfortable in it. I feel like too much of my hips are showing and I have a constant wedgie lol. I will be sticking to the standard style swimsuits that fully cover your front and back sides.
FUN PRINTS
Animal prints, more specifically leopard print has been popular all year in clothing, shoes, and accessories, so it only makes sense that our swimsuits have the print on it too! I have been seeing a lot of people showing off the leopard spring sport bikini from Target and I didn’t get why until I tried it on! It’s so cute and flattering! Another favorite pattern of mine this season is stripes. Specifically vertical stripe bathing suits because vertical stripes make you look taller. Below are some of my favorite styles that you can shop just by clicking on them!
You also don’t have to spend a lot of money to find a cute and trendy swimsuit. I have found a lot of bathing suits – both one and two-piece suits for under $40. My favorite place to go is Target! They always have reasonably priced suits that are cute and will actually last a long time.
What swimsuit style will you be wearing this summer?
The sporty and fun ones I love! Great post x
So glad you enjoyed the post!
You’ve got a really good range of styles here! Got me thinking that it could be an actual look rather than just practical. Great post!
A swimsuit can definitely reflect your style and personality!
All of your picks are so cute! I’ve been searching for the perfect one piece in a gingham print:)
So glad you liked my post! I hope you find the gingham suit you’re looking for!
great post! i also hate the high leg suits, i tend to try and stay very covered when in a bathing suit because i’m not crazy about my body and the high leg suits just show off too much! i need a new suit for this year and this post gave me so many ideas (:

Yeah those types of suits make me very body conscious! So I try to stick to the more traditional cut that keeps me covered haha!
Nice and cool picks! I think I need to get one!
So glad you liked my post!
Oooh I love ALL of these! Finding fun swimsuits is the best feeling. I love the confidence I feel in a cute suit!
Yes! and the right swimsuit can give you so much confidence!

Thanks Luke!
I love this because I am currently trying to find some new suits!! I keep ordering and returning because I can’t find something that I like and that is age appropriate.
I hope this post helps you find the right one!
Adorable choices:) I’m loving the return to one pieces myself this summer!
One-piece suits are great!

Cute styles! I forget about Asos. Thanks for the reminder!
I love Asos!!
I love wearing a one piece swimsuit but I hate these new ones that have ridiculous amounts of the fabric cut out around the tummy area. I mean what’s the point aha!

Yeah I don’t know what those designers were thinking haha!
I love how one-pieces and high cuts are making swimsuits fun to wear for every age and body type. The prints and colors are so cute! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Glad you enjoyed my post!
As someone with no fashion sense… THANK YOU! This article will lead me in the right direction!
haha you’re very welcome!
I can’t stand the high leg bathing suits because I am always so self-conscious that some stray hairs might emerge :-/
I much prefer little shorts for the bottom, or a couple of years ago I was finding swimsuits that had little skirts around the pants to keep my private area…well…private!
I am the same way girl!
This was such a fun post! I wish I could wear a one piece but they always look weird on me because my torso is so long lol but I love me a fun print!
I’m sure you look fabulous in a one-piece!
I absolutely adore a one piece swim suit!
Love, Amie ❤
The Curvaceous Vegan
I love them too!
Great post! I’m wearing the first bikini I’ve ever worn this summer—in the sports bra style. I’ve been doing a lot of work in my physical fitness, and I wanted to show it off.
Love those sporty bikinis!!
I’ve been really drawn to one pieces this year, the Old Navy one piece looks gorgeous, don’t think I can get it in the UK sadly!

Loved your post, made me think about going out of my comfort zone and trying a fun printed bathing suit!! Idk we’ll see 😩😇
I really don’t suit a one piece swimsuit. I feel like an odd shape when I wear one. I prefer a 2 piece bandeau bikini in nice, bright colours.
I love the fun one with stripes from ASOS and the black one from madewell. They are so cool!

Ooooh I’ve notices a lot of high cut leg ones (and thong bottoms) and loads of patterns. Great post thanks
I love your choices of swimwear Lindsey! I’m somebody who loves wearing a high waisted bikini or a swimsuit! x

I bet you look amazing in those swimsuit styles too!
I’m a fan of one piece swimsuits! Theyre just so comfortable to wear and makes me more confident. I love high-waisted bottoms, too. It’s been a trend but sadly I cannot use my swimwears on the beach because of corona. Great post. 🙂
Hopefully you’ll be able to wear them at some point this summer when it’s safe to go to the beach again!
I love the sporty styles but i dont think they are great for tan lines aha! I wish i had somewhere sunny to go this summer and wear lots of swimsuits! X
Oh I have had weird tanlines my whole life haha! I don’t even care about them anymore!
