Now, who doesn’t love summer? The sun starts to shine, the birds start to sing, and there are plenty of fun things going on like BBQs and vacations. Summer is my favorite season because it’s so warm and everyone is happy. I love to go swimming and decorating my home for the season. I bring in a lot of bright colors and fun prints, as well as plenty of plants. Summer doesn’t just have to be going on outside or on your porch, you can bring the sunshine weather inside to brighten up your home!
Here are some simple tips and changes that you can make to help bring summer into your home. Since it’s the beginning of the warmer months, now is the perfect time to change up the look of your home and bring in new decor.
Pastels
There is a reason why we bring pastel colors back into our lives when the weather starts to warm up. It’s because the colors are light, airy, and fun. They remind us of flowers and other things like ice cream. So why not bring in some of the pastel colors into your home? The good news is that these softer colors can be used in just about any room in the home. You could use removable wallpaper or paint a whole room or feature wall in pastel shades. If you want to go for a less drastic change to your home, try adding splashes of color with pastel pillows or throws and having them on display in your living area. These light and breezy colors will help your home to feel nice and light and breezy.
Houseplants
I have recently bought a whole bunch of plants, some for outside and some for inside. (I’m trying my best to keep them all alive). I learned that having plants in your home that it has been linked to making the room that they are in much less stressful. And if summer is anything, it should be stress-free! As well as just helping to alleviate stress, having plants in the home can help in many other ways too. There are so many plants that can help purify the air and take toxins away so that we don’t breathe them in. I can see how having those plants would help to ease the stress in my life.
You might think that you have to ‘go big or go home’ with your houseplants, but it doesn’t need to be a huge overpowering plant, unless, of course, you want one like that in the corner of the room. Even having a small selection of succulents (which are very hard to kill), can be a way to bring the outside in, and have some nature indoors. The plants that you have can also bring in that feeling of summer, as they will bring vibrant pops of color with them, and a feeling of freshness and brightness. Houseplants really are a must-have thing for summer, and the extra health benefits that they bring is an added bonus. I personally have a palm plant in my home that I love looking at because it just screams summer when you look at it. I know that a lot of other people have fig plants or others like the Monstera deliciosa plant that are tropical by nature.
Tropical Prints
If you aren’t very good at keeping plants alive, there is another way you can bring plants into your home. It’s through printed fabric! These tropical prints can be palm trees and leaves, fruits such as pineapples, watermelon, and banana’s, and animals like flamingos. You bring these prints into your home in the form of throw pillows, blankets, fun pictures, table runners, cushions, or other home decor items. So make the most of it! Look out for some tropical inspired patterns and designs and it can help things to look as eye-catching as possible. These bolder prints are totally allowed in summer, and they can bring the room to life. I personally am on a flamingo craze right now and want to have flamingo towels, pillows, placemats, and flamingo clothing!
Light and Bright
No matter what color you have painted your walls, even if you’ve gone for the lightest and brightest color that there is, your home will dark and dim if there aren’t a couple of other factors in place. So in order to create a light look in your home, have you thought about the following? Something that is so important for light is mirrors , but they serve a practical purpose too. Mirrors are able to bounce the light around the room, because of their shiny surface. So if you have a mirror on the wall, where the light will hit it, it can reflect that light making things look brighter. An added bonus is that mirrors can create an illusion of a room looking bigger than it is. So an easy win is getting more mirrors in the home.
The thing that lets the light into the home is the windows. So for starters, are your windows in decent condition as they are? If they’re looking a little worse for wear, then it could be a good idea to contact a windows company. Next, it is a good idea to get all of your windows cleaned, both inside and outside, to allow light to beam through with no problems.
Curtains and Blinds
The curtains and blinds that you have in your home will also play a part in how much light comes into your house. If you have thick curtains that cover most of a small window, even when they’re open, then it could be a good idea to have that looked at. Thick drapes can clock a lot of light. That can be good for bedtime, but not during the day. Roller blackout blinds are usually a good way to go if you want light in the day, but light blocked out at night. My personal favorite blackout curtains are from IKEA and they work wonders at keeping the bright light out of my bedroom.
Summer is about vibrant colors and having fun. You’re meant to spend most of your time outside but if you have to come inside, it’s nice to have a nicely decorated home. Having seasonal decor up in my house makes me happy and it means that I get to switch things up every time the seasons change. Simple changes like throw pillows, blankets, flowers, and other small things, can make all the difference in the feel of your home. Bright or pastel colors are something that really does energize a room, which is why having a dynamic and colorful feature in a room will brighten it all up, pretty much right away.
How do you decorate your home for summer?
