It’s that time of year when the leaves start to change, and the weather gets colder. This means that Autumn is here! It’s a wonderful time when apples and pumpkins are popular, Halloween and Thanksgiving are on our minds and we all get to layer up in cozy sweaters and boots. As soon as September comes, I break out my fall decorations and spend an entire weekend setting my home up for the season. I have candles, pumpkins, fake leaves, wreaths, scarecrows, and more decorations that put out.
These decorations make my home look like autumn, but it’s not quite done yet. As soon as the temperatures drop, I like to make certain design changes to my home to really make it cozy. Since we’ll basically be stuck inside for the next 4 months, I like to make the atmosphere as warm and inviting as possible.
Here’s how I do that:
BRING OUT THE BLANKETS! I have a blanket problem, I own 15+ blankets/throws that are all over my home. There’s a bunch on the couch, more on the bed, some at my computer desk and one at the dining room table. I like having them all around because I’m always cold. So when the weather starts to get colder, I bring out most of those blankets plus my favorite one – the heated plush blanket! If you don’t have a heated blanket, you NEED ONE! They are lifesavers for people like me. I just wish I could have one for work because my office is absolutely freezing.
While you’re putting out all these throws and blankets, make sure to pile up the pillows too. I have so many pillows on my couch that there is barely room for us to sit. But it’s okay because I love burying myself in blankets and pillows on a cold autumn night. You get bonus points if you have a fireplace or wood burning stove that you can turn all your furniture towards so that you can feel the warmth.
When the seasons change, I like to change out all my kitchen, dining room, and bathroom linens. I like the towels and placemats to have the coordinating colors. So, for Fall, the hand towels, table runners, and placemats are all deep oranges, reds, and browns. In our bedroom, I will switch our normal sheets out for flannel one and the thin linen curtains will be replaced with thick, cold air blocking ones.
I like having different home décor items for each season because even though the temperature always stays the same inside the home, the décor can reflect the seasons. The first thing I always do when the season changes is go to Home Goods and buy a fall scented candle or 5 haha. I just love smelling the scent of pumpkin or apple spice when I’m cleaning or watching Netflix. Plus the soft glow of candles in a dark room, instantly makes it the coziest room.
Other cozy autumn decorations that you can have in your home are plaid table runners, a bowl full of pumpkins, apples and cinnamon on your dining room table, a fall wreath on your front door and sheepskin rugs in the bedrooms.
These simple changes will make your home look and feel like fall. So warm up a mug of apple cider, wrap yourself in blankets on the couch and enjoy the ambiance of your home!
Omg these are such simple changes but give such a beautiful effect! It looks so autumnal and cosy x
Aaah I love autumn/fall! I’m like you, I always get the blankets out, the fall-ish home decor, and my scented fall candles out too. Even though it’s still a bit warm here, just getting out the fall things just makes everything seem more cozy and lovely. And I love all the examples you put in here. Now I want to go shopping for more autumn things! lol.

Great post! I love these small and easy decor upgrades that can really make a difference. Thanks for sharing!
The challenge for me is storage. I’m just renting a place so storage is quite limited. Also, I’m afraid of hoarding since it’s quite easy to get sucked into buying everything I see >.<

Oo, the candle looks scrumptious!
Fall is a beautiful season to start bringing its kaleidoscope of colors into the home; oranges and yellows make for such a cozy feel. Thanks for sharing!
Lovely post! It’s nice that you guys are changing your home decorations every seasons. In Malaysia, we only have one season- summer. So we don’t have this tradition.
I opened your blog post because of the photos. And I can’t take my eyes away from those pumpkins. I love the autumn decor.
Blanket and candle season is just around the corner and I honestly can’t wait for that time to come around now! x

Great post! I, too, love a lot of cozy blankets and pillows.
Great ideas!! Love the Pottery Barn pumpkins and the pillow! Usually, I am in a summer mood until like October but this year I feel like fall already. It has been a weird year, to be honest. Already begun the pumpkin spice madness ahhah!!
This is such a great post! I really want to start switching my space up with the seasons, so I definitely need to invest in some more blankets; I only have one haha xx

Great post! Thank you for sharing! I love fall decor and I am definitely going to be using my blankets!
Blankets and candles make such a difference! I love a nice cozy throw, even if it’s still hot out outside. It makes settling in during the evenings so much more relaxing.
So cute! I love any and all fall decor!
I really want to buy some Autumn bedding this year because I really want to go all out with Fall after the disaster this year has been so far!
I am not ready to talk fall yet. For me it starts in September 22nd and untill then I will hang on to summer. Summer baby over here. But I do love your tips on how to make a cozy warm fall home feeling. Very simple things to add.
I love these ideas. I have some beautiful autumn wax melts which I am using and I just love them. I am a blanket kinda girl to.
I don’t have a heated one because my partner would boil to death! But maybe I should invest in one. The colours are just so beautiful in autumn x x x
I love Autumn season! I don’t often go all out in decorating, but I love changing up my coffee bar and front porch for the season 💕
I love Autumn/Halloween it is one of my favourite seasons (behind Christmas) and I just got all my decorations out of the loft ready to put around the house and I am so excited! Also like you I am a blanket gal xx
I’ll admit that with my current home color scheme (mostly blues and greens), it can be challenging to truly decorate for autumn in the traditional manner. The reds and oranges don’t quite match. BUT I’ve found little ways to incorporate autumnal vibes into my house, which makes me really happy since it’s my favorite season. You’ve got some great tips here. I like the idea of extra blankets and pillows!
I used to do some if this but my husband hated it so….we compromised. Decorating for a season does bring a different feel into your home though.
I always like autumn decor, pumpkins, autumn leaves! Love the autumn aesthetic in the coffee/tea photo.
I loved reading this post! Autumn/Winter is my favourite time of year I love getting blankets and autumn decor making my home as cosy as possible!
I love this. I’ve definitely brought out the blankets already and when my parents visit me at uni I’ll be getting them to bring more that I previously left at home. Add some fairy lights and a bed side stack of books and tadaa my autumn home 😍
I am very much like you when it comes to my blanket obsession. I’m sitting here in my chair in the living room right now with a blanket draped over the back of the chair, a blanket folded on the footstool under my feet and another blanket actually being used over my legs for warmth haha! I am a firm believer that you can NEVER have too many blankets around the house!
This looks indeed cozy and charming, I would love to have
pumpkins like this. Love the blankets..
This is my favourite time of year and I can’t wait to make my home more cozy. I just bought my first fall candle yesterday and need to get some more warm blankets!
Love the ideas! A favorite of mine are fall-scented candles! My apartment ends up smelling so good! x
Such a cute post! Love decorating and changing out my clothing for fall.
There are some brilliant ideas here! I’m in the process of decorating my home for autumn! I have too many throws and pillows. I love a seasonal candle and my fairy lights are out. I need some more decorations though! Thanks for sharing!
I love decorating my home – I’m in the process of getting my Halloween decorations down and I am trying to persuade my man to put the Christmas decs up soon!
