There’s no shame in being bored. Whenever you find yourself with not so much to do — or not so many places to go — it’s natural to get a bit antsy. You start feeling bored. Instead of sitting around on your phone getting lost in the news and social media (and slowly losing your mind), pivot to some fun things you can do at home or in your own backyard. If social distancing has you stuck inside going stir crazy, there are several activities you can do to pass the time and keep yourself entertained.
Play a board game. Put your phone down and play a board game with your significant other or family. Monopoly, Life, Sorry and others are always a great time until someone gets mad and flips the board.
Put together a puzzle. I have a 700 piece all grey puzzle that we will be working on this weekend.
Have a movie marathon. My boyfriend and I recently watched all the Star Wars movies in order!
Sing along to some Disney songs. The Little Mermaid and Lion King soundtracks always get my endorphins!
Plan your next vacation. Just because we can’t go anywhere right now, doesn’t mean that you can’t plan out a future trip for next year.
Build a fort in the living room. The couch cushions or a few chairs and blankets make an awesome wonderland.
Get a workout in. There are a ton of free trials for workout apps that you can play on your phone or television. Try one for 15-30 days.
Call a friend. I’ve been calling my family and friends a lot more recently and I enjoy talking to them for a little.
Watch a performance. Instead of turning on Netflix, watch an online broadway show or, ballet performance. Youtube has a lot of videos.
Learn a new language. I’ve been meaning to check out Duolingo.
Learn a dance. Download the Tik Tok app and challenge yourself to learn one of the trending dances everyone is doing.
Play a video game. We recently bought a Nintendo Switch so that we could play a lot of games like the new Animal Crossing New Horizon’s game.
Start a new book. Don’t you have a pile of books that you could never find the time to read?
Download an audiobook. I usually listen to an audiobook on my way to work but you can listen to them while your folding laundry or walking on a treadmill.
Listen to a new podcast. There are a few podcasts that I have fallen behind on so now would be the perfect time to catch up on them.
Try a coloring book. Adult coloring books amazing! I love coloring.
Change up your décor. Try rearranging the furniture or moving some decor items to a new shelf in your bedroom.
Try a new recipe. I am really hoping to learn how to bake a loaf of bread!
Bake cookies. Chocolate chip cookies are my specialty.
Put together a care package. My brother is far away at college and I know he would love to receive a package full of fun things and his favorite foods.
Paint your nails. I always feel like a new person when I paint my nails.
Take a bubble bath. Embrace your free time with a mountain of bubbles and a few drops of essential oils.
Do a face mask. I have so many face masks in my cabinet and now is a great time for some self-care.
Start journaling. An easy way to do this is to write one or two sentences about your day in a notebook.
Listen to a meditation video. With all that is going on in the world, it’s important to sit down and focus on your inner peace.
Try living room yoga. Yoga helps center your mind. You can do it at home with no equipment using a free app, too.
Clean your whole house. Go through every room in your house and clean it. When done, light a nice smelling candle!
Wipe the windows. I have plans to clean every window in my apartment. I hope it brings in a lot more light!
Wash your makeup brushes. If your reading this, go clean your makeup brushes.
Clean out purses. Take our hair-ties, receipts, gum wrappers and 5 bottles of chapstick.
Clean out your closet. I have a closet cleanout guide HERE!
Organize your kitchen. Go through all the spices in the cabinet, organize your Tupperware collection and baking pans
Spruce up your outdoor space. Shop for new outdoor furniture and accent pieces for those summer get-togethers.
Clean your dirty shoes. Make your Converse or Vans look like new by scrubbing them clean.
Enjoy the food outdoors. Take your lunch to the backyard or patio to get a little vitamin D while you indulge.
Go for a long walk. We have a park near our apartment that we love to go for walks around. You can just walk around your neighborhood too.
Take your pet to the park. Take your dog to a dog park or any other animals that like to go outside.
Start a garden. Roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty in the backyard or your windowsill, if you don’t have outdoor space.
Go for a bike ride. My dad goes for a bike ride almost every day. I have a bike…I just need to dig it out of the closet.
Take a drive. You don’t need a destination — just a great playlist and the open road.
Great post! These are all wonderful ideas. I’ve loved watching some extra shows and spending more time being productive around the house. Thanks for sharing!
So glad you enjoyed my post!
These are all great ideas! I have been allowed to go back to work as I am a key worker but I was starting to go crazy in the house and so was my partner. I will pass some of them onto him hopefully they will be able to keep him occupied!
I hope my ideas help!
These are such brilliant suggestions! My favourites are bubble baths, journalling, yoga and baking. I’ve also done a lot of colouring recently, it’s such a good way to relax and feel calm. Thank you for sharing your ideas, fab post! ❤ xx
