This quarantine lockdown period is stressful. We’re all stuck inside and incredibly bored. However, you can use this time to invest in yourself and be a better person when this is all over. You may have to adjust to working from home or being around your family all the time, or you may be helping your kids with their schoolwork while trying to not go crazy. We all have to adjust to this new normal and try to make the best of this situation. Staying at home does not have to be dull. You can find plenty of ideas online to keep you busy. Instead of sitting around on your phone getting lost in the news and social media (and slowly losing your mind), pivot to some fun things you can do at home or in your own backyard. If social distancing has you stuck inside going stir crazy, there are several activities you can do to pass the time and keep yourself entertained.
Because I am home all the time, I make a point to exercise and move my body for at least 30 minutes every day. I go for walks and I follow along with workout videos in my living room. Why not use this time at home to workout and get in shape. You could come out of this lockdown with strong arms and a toned butt! While you may not have gym equipment, you can still do plenty of fun workouts at home via apps like the like the 30-day fitness challenge. I like this app because it shows me how to do various exercises to ensure that my form is correct. Being active and working out each day also helps with your mental health, along with physical well being! It can turn into a good habit to keep up with even after the quarantine.
TRY A NEW HAIRSTYLE
Since all the hair salons and beauty places are closed during the lockdown, it’s time to learn how to cut and dye your own hair! Don’t be scared about it, there are plenty of videos on YouTube so you can get creative with your hair. I personally trim my own hair every couple of weeks so that it continue to grow and be healthy. Your hair grows are a rate of half an inch per month, so you’ll need to do something to it if this lockdown continues for more than 2 months.
You can maintain your mane by trimming, dyeing, or trying a new hairstyle. Don’t worry if you mess it up, no one will see it anyway because we can’t leave the house! Luckily, you watch all the hair cutting and dyeing tutorials online to get exciting haircut ideas. Jen Atkin, the celebrity hairstylist, has tons of videos on how to tame your hair and rock a new look from home! The videos also have tips on touching up your hair color. I will be trying to cover up my overgrown roots in a couple weeks!
MAKE YOUR OWN GARDEN
If you have been with me on my plant journey, you know that I have a black thumb (I kill plants). But I am trying to be better and learn all that I can about keeping plants alive and healthy. I was always too busy when I was working, so being home during this time has allowed me to start my own little garden. I have plants to buy seeds, grow vegetables and flowers on the patio of my apartment. If you are a beginner plant mom like myself, you need to know that there are plants out there that are especially for us! They are hard to kill, don’t require much water or light plants that can take all the abuse from people like us that forget that the plant is even in our home. Having plants in my home and outside have been a real stress reliever because I like caring for them and channeling my nurturing spirit.
CLEAN YOUR CLOSET
One of my very first blog posts when Cozy Stylist was just a little fashion blog, was a guide to cleaning out your closet. Once every season, I like to take the time to get organized and actually go through all the clothing and accessories in my closet. As much as I love being organized and seeing all my clothing hanging up in one place, I absolutely dread cleaning it out. This is only because I don’t really have a system to cleaning it and it usually takes me hours to get the task done. I turned to the internet to help me create a system to organize my closet and utilize all the space that I have.
You can use all the free time you have during this quarantine period to really get a handle on your cluttered closet. Try out all the clothes you have and decide on what you would like to keep. If you have a partner, you can try out different looks and have fun! It will also be best to find the clothes that you no longer use and sell them online or donate to the local charities.
PLAY WITH MAKEUP
YouTube has millions of videos teaching you how to do different makeup looks. Now you may not be able to go out and buy new makeup but you can get creative and use what you have at home. Although, I do believe that drug stores and grocery stores that are still open, sell all the makeup you could ever need. So, why not spend a day learning how to up your simple morning makeup routine or learn how to have the perfect smokey eye look or a perfect winged eyeliner look. You can tag your friends to join along and try various looks or have your kids give you a makeover without you looking. It will be a fun way to spend your day inside
Just because you are stuck at home doesn’t mean that you can’t use that time to invest in yourself and come out of this lock down period a better person. There is also no shame in being bored. Whenever you find yourself with not so much to do — or not so many places to go — it’s natural to get a bit antsy. You start feeling bored. So don’t just sit around on your phone or on the couch watching Netflix shows all day long, try some fun activities that will help you become better. Read a new book, watch a documentary, start running or exercising, create a garden, and learn about new things to keep yourself and your family entertained.
I know that these are uncertain times with the Coronavirus pandemic and restricted movements, but you can have fun while being safe at home! Make sure you exit this period feeling good about yourself thanks to you staying healthy at home and flattening the curve.
