With everything going on in the world it can be easy to forget that Mother’s Day is less than a week away! Celebrating mom will look a little different than it did on Mother’s Day last year, but then again, everything right now is different from this time last year. This year maybe you have quarantined hundreds of miles away from your mom, or maybe you came home at the beginning of lockdown to be with your family. Either way, you won’t be able to meet at your favorite brunch place or go to a spa or even give her a simple Mother’s Day card.
However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t make the day special for the mothers, grandmas, aunts, and other special women in your life this Mother’s Day. With a little creativity and technology, there are a few ways that you can still send your mom a gift for Mother’s Day, spend some virtual time with her and make her feel special.
Here are the ways to celebrate your mom and still be safely socially distant:
SEND GIFT CARDS
This is one thing that I will be doing this year, is not only sending her a Mother’s Day card but also a gift card to her favorite restaurant and shops. This is a great way to also support local businesses if they can’t be open to the public right now.
CALL OR VIDEO CHAT
We all wish that we could be near our moms to wish them a Happy Mother’s Day in person, but instead, we will have to call or video chats with them. You can call her by yourself or get the entire family in on a video call to catch up. You and your siblings can also record yourselves on your phone sending your mom well wishes and edit the clips together in a nice compilation.
VISIT BUCKET LIST PLACES (VIRTUALLY)
Since no one is allowed to travel right now, you can take your mom on a virtual tour of her favorite places. Travel the world with virtual tours of museums, gardens, mansions, and national parks. There are over 30 museums, theme parks, and zoos that are offering virtual tours during the pandemic. You and your mom can tour dozens of places together from the comfort of your own home.
DECORATE HER FRONT DOOR
This idea is really fun and I will defiantly be doing this for my mom on Sunday, May 10th. If you can drive by your mom’s house, a fun way to celebrate her is to decorate her front door! When you drop off her Mother’s Day card and gift, take some extra time to dress up her door with a pretty wreath. You can buy one or DIY one with spring flowers and fun decorative items you have around the house. She will be so surprised and can keep the wreath up all season long!
TAKE A VIRTUAL CLASS TOGETHER
If you’re miles away from your mom this Mother’s Day, why not take a virtual class together? It can be a dance class, cooking class, wine tasting, or virtual art class. With a virtual cooking class, you can get the whole family to pitch in for her Mother’s Day brunch or dinner.
HAVE A VIRTUAL DINNER DATE OR HAPPY HOUR
With the help of technology, you and your mom can have a nice dinner date or happy hour drinks over Facetime or Zoom. So make yourself a nice meal or pour yourself a drink or two and talk the night away. Mom will appreciate the simple chat with her favorite cocktail in hand.
SEND A CARE PACKAGE BASKET
Quarantine Mother’s Day is a great opportunity to package a bunch of her favorite foods and self-care items together to send to your mom in a basket. You can put gift cards in the basket, her favorite wine and snack food, a scented candle, and some bubble bath. You can either deliver it to her front doorstep or get it mailed to her.
