The summer season is the perfect time of year to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. It’s that time of year when everything is heating up, the sun it up longer, and people are spending more time in shorts and sandals. It’s a great time of year to change up the date night routine and fit in some really fun, unique, seasonally appropriate summer dates. You and your partners can enjoy some outdoor dates and have fun at the beach, an outdoor concert, or eating ice cream. These 15 date ideas below will help you two have a romantic time together by having fun and connecting through fun delightful conversation.
See an Outdoor Movie
If you’re lucky enough to live close to a drive-in movie theater, I highly recommend going this summer. My boyfriend and I love to go and see one outdoor movie every summer. It’s fun and romantic to watch snuggle together on a blanket, watch the sunset, eat popcorn and watch a movie or two!
Go for a Bike Ride
Grab your bikes and take an after-dinner ride around your town or a park. If you don’t have a bike, try to rent one for an hour! You could even get one bicycle with two seats so you can be close to each other and pedal the same bike.
Visit an Amusement Park
My boyfriend and I met at an amusement park! We both worked in the waterpark section of the park and have been dating for over 5-years now! An amusement or water park is a cute date because you get to be close to one another on the ride, share an inner-tube on a water slide, and share a funnel cake dessert. There are also a ton of games that you can play to win a prize for your partner.
See an Outdoor Concert
During the summer months, there are plenty of outdoor music events going on. Get dressed up in your favorite band attire and go rock out to some great music. There will be plenty of music, dancing, singing, and drinks!
Check Out a Minor League Game
Going to a minor-league baseball game is a lot more exciting than it sounds. I am not a baseball person, but my boyfriend is, we will go to one or two games a summer. It’s fun to wear the team’s jersey, eat stadium food, and watch the game. It’s an easy way to spend time together outside. If you want even more fun, they usually have theme nights with promotional food and characters.
Hit the Beach
If you live close to a beach or lake, why not spend a day or two lying in the sand? I love packing up my beach bag for the day and driving down to the shore with my boyfriend. It’s a relaxing date that will be a combination of boardwalk food and playing in the ocean. You can even make dinner reservations at a nice restaurant for a seafood date night while watching the waves.
Get Ice Cream
An easy and quick date idea is to grab some ice cream! I love buying a cone of my favorite soft serve flavor ice cream and eating it at a local park or just sitting in the car listening to music. It’s a cute date that both of you will remember and want to do often.
Take a Hike
During the Corona-virus lockdown, my boyfriend and I would get out of the house by going on hikes. We loved visiting our local trails, packing lunch, and exploring nature. It’s a fun way to spend a couple of hours together, exercising and enjoying the views.
Find a Beer Garden
If you’re fans of beer — or pretzels or sausages or any other tasty beer hall snack — check out a local brewery where you can chat over a few bottles of beer. If tasting flights are on the menu, pick a few kinds of beers you haven’t tried already, then compare notes after each new brew.
Play Fun Outdoor Games
A fun date idea is to go mini-golfing at your local course and then grab some ice cream or dinner afterward. If you want to have a fun outdoor date night at home, try playing some backyard games like croquet, corn hole, horseshoes, or kickball.
Pack a Picnic
An oldie but goodie summer date night idea is to pack a picnic! It doesn’t have to be extravagant, just two simple meals that you don’t mind eating outside. May I suggest that you bring sandwiches, salad, cheese, and bread, and don’t forget the wine!
Explore a New Town
If you want to try something new with your significant other, try going to a new town and exploring. I love learning about the history of the town, going on food tours, or visiting their parks. You could also have a staycation, where you stay home but explore new places virtually.
Get on the Water
If you have a body of water near where you live, try spending the day there. You can go sailing on a boat, go fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding or go swimming. It’s a fun way to spend a date under the sun and in the water.
Fire Up the Grill
If you want to show off your grilling skills, set up an outdoor table area to have dinner. Cook up some burgers or steaks on the grill and serve with corn, potatoes, bread, and wine. If you wanted to cook over an open fire, trying having a campfire night where you cozy up next to the fire pit and roast marshmallows together.
Go Stargazing
I think the nighttime sky is so mesmerizing and romantic. Spend a night under the stars by laying out a blanket to look up at the sky. You could even bring a telescope with you to see what constellations you can spot.
