Valentine’s Day is a day filled with love, chocolate, and flowers. You can celebrate this holiday with your family, friends, significant other, children or with yourself. You can’t forget to show yourself some love too!
Self-care is one of those things that may get put on the back burner when you get too busy with work, family, school, and everything else. And while it’s totally normal to be busy with life, it is super important to recenter, relax, and refocus on yourself. Allow yourself to unwind, to remember how amazing you are, and to treat yourself to things you deserve. Try out one or all of these ideas and see which ones resonate with you.
Relax
This is the easiest thing that you can do for yourself this Valentine’s Day. Do something that relaxes you. I personally love to curl up on the couch with a good blanket, have a book in hand, and have calming music playing. You can also watch your favorite Netflix show while drinking wine, take a hot shower or calming bath, paint your nails, or go for a walk in nature. Whatever it is, give yourself a little relaxation today, you deserve it!
If you’re not good at putting yourself first, use this month to try it out! Each day try to carve out 15-45 minutes to take for yourself to recenter yourself and come back to your busy life with new energy.
Eat your favorite food
Another easy way to show yourself some love on this fun holiday is to eat your favorite foods! Valentine’s day is all about chocolate so why not go buy a bag of your favorite treat and then treat yourself to them while you’re relaxing.
You can either cook your favorite meal or go out and buy your favorite ice cream. This year, I will be making homemade pasta that I enjoy cooking. I will also be treating myself to delicious garlic bread, wine, and Dove chocolates. Eat foods that will make you happy and bring you joy!
Take Yourself on a Date!
This self-care idea is so fun for Valentine’s Day. Take yourself out on a date! I love my boyfriend but I am also a very independent person who loves to spend time alone with myself. It helps me recharge my batteries and makes me a better human.
Due to COVID restrictions, taking myself on a date looks a little different. How I would go about doing this is by gathering all the materials I would need to treat myself and then go back home to do everything. I would go to a convenience store to pick up nail polish, a face mask, and some yummy snacks for later. I would then stop by a store like Target to pick up a DVD movie, a book, and some cozy socks. I would then call ahead to my favorite restaurant to order some sushi to bring home with me.
If the world was back to normal, I would travel to so many places for my date day! I would start my day by wearing my favorite outfit and then going to get a massage and my nails done. Then I would pick up lunch at my favorite restaurant and bring it to a park to eat and people watch. I would then stop by my favorite retail stores for some shopping and then come home to read, watch a fun movie and eat a delicious dinner. Ending my day with a relaxing bath and hanging out with my cats.
Make Yourself A Valentine
I love this idea because I am a very creative and crafty person. You don’t have to just make cute Valentine crafts for your friends or family, but you can make some for yourself too! I saw this idea on Pinterest and thought it was great. What you do is take colored construction paper and cut out a large heart shape. Then at the top of the heart write “I love that..” and then fill it in with all the things you love about yourself.
You can also be crafty and make cute Valentine’s decorations to have around your house or to give as gifts to other people. If you’re not a creative person don’t worry, you can always go out and buy yourself a Valentines gift or decoration for your home!
I hope you have a great Valentine’s this year and have a day that is full of love and chocolate! And most important don’t forget to show yourself the gift of self-love!
Lovely post! I absolutely adore the idea of making yourself a Valentine’s. We go to so much trouble to make Valentine’s Day special for our partners, but never think to do anything for ourselves. We sit back and hope that the ones we love will do something nice for us. I think it is so empowering for us to stop depending on others to make us feel loved and start loving ourselves. Thanks for sharing these tips!
Love the ideas here! I think it’s so important for us all to include ourselves in Valentine’s celebrations, etc. I’m going to do some of these!
Eating good for is always a Valentine’s day must! Great tips.
Aww I like the idea of making yourself a Valentine. That’s so sweet! I don’t really do much for Valentine’s Day, usually, but this year my husband and I have some really fun stay-at-home plans that I’m looking forward to. However, the night before? That’s going to be 100% for me!
Love this post! Relaxing and having the chance to put yourself first is so important!

Love this post! Why does Valentines Day have to be for a couple, anyone can celebrate it and just it as a way to treat yourself. If I was to take myself on a date, after covid, I would go to a coffee shop x
Love this, it’s so important to take of yourself! I really like the idea of eating your fave foods & relaxing today xx
These are lovely ideas and ones we all should practice from time to time. Not only on Valentine’s Day. It’s good to love yourself. After working in a nursing facility for a while I found that many people end up alone eventually for one reason or another and it’s something we condition ourselves to not be used to. I think loving ourselves now will help us overcome obstacles in life that may not be here yet. This post is full of wisdom honestly and I really enjoyed it.
This was such a lovely read! I love the idea of making your own valentine and taking yourself on a date! It’s so important to take time and treat yourself x
Take yourself in a date. ❤️ I kind of did this. While my daughter was out celebrating Gal-entines with fer friends, I went to the pool with a magazine and my music. 🎉
I love these 4 ideas for self-love on Valentine’s Day. Eating your favorite food is a great way to celebrate the day, funnily enough, we had spaghetti for dinner tonight which is my favorite meal. I love the idea of making yourself a valentine, it’s a bit late in the day but I am going to do that now.
