Staying focused on work can be difficult—especially if you work from home. I’ve been permanently working from home for the past 8 months and I have had to redo the décor in my home office many times. I want it to be the perfect environment for working, but also have it be nice and welcoming. I have found that I can stay focused and motivated to do my work if my work space is filled with color, motivating quotes, plants, and personal pictures.
When you create a welcoming environment that increases your comfort, your motivation and focus will increase. Eliminating distractions and increasing the coziness of your office space will give you the productivity boost you need to get through slumps of low energy. Check out these ways to upgrade your home office for a pleasant working environment.
When working from home, you don’t just want to be sitting at your kitchen table or on the couch or even worse your bed. You want to have a dedicated workspace with a desk, chair, and all the folders and supplies that you need. My boyfriend and I bought a double desk from Wayfair and we love that we each have our own separate space for our computers yet, the desks are connected. I was important for us to find a desk that was at the proper height that allowed us to comfortable rest our legs underneath. I also struggled for a while to find the right office chair that would support my spine. I have lower back problems and terrible posture, so I had to find a chair that supports the natural curve in my spine. You can also improve your current chair situation with a pillow for your lower back.
I’ve talked about how I love plants and had to learn how to keep them alive. I have an entire bookshelf filled with houseplants that bring my joy. Plants are great additions to any home office. They not only add oxygen and color to a small space but also keep you connected to nature while you’re stuck inside. You can get a plant that doesn’t require much sunlight and have it sitting on a shelf or you can hand them by a window or buy a grow light like I have.
I am the queen of having blankets and pillows at my desk. (Yes, even when I worked in an office) I want to be as comfortable as possible while working so I surround myself with the softest throw blankets, comfy pillows, and fuzzy area rugs. Remember, you’re spending a majority of your day at your desk, so make it a comfortable place to be. Have a blanket nearby when it gets chilly, add a footrest for even better posture, and find an area rug. There are many different types of area rugs; choose one that makes you feel homey.
